Peruvian gang leader Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, who is suspected of murdering at least twenty-three people in his home nation, was arrested in New York last week after he was permitted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to cross the southern border.

The agency announced that Torres-Navarro, who leads a gang called Los Killers, was arrested in Endicott, New York, three months after he illegally entered the United States. The crime lord was detained at the border but released with a notice to appear for immigration proceedings. He is now at a detention center near Buffalo, New York, until he receives an immigration hearing.

Mishelle Sol Ivanna Ortiz Ubillus, the girlfriend of Torres-Navarro who authorities in Peru believe is involved in his criminal schemes, was also arrested and is currently held in Pennsylvania.

Ortiz Ubillus reportedly has a significant number of followers on social media, where she showcases vacations, clothes, and other artifacts from their opulent lifestyle.

Colonel Franco Moreno, an investigator in Peru, said that authorities in the South American nation tracked phone calls, messages, and locations from Torres-Navarro and other members of his gang, which has employed violence to protect their extortion of construction companies.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, publicly criticized President Joe Biden over the arrest, asserting that his immigration policies are “terrorizing our communities.”

Customs and Border Protection has encountered more than 7.5 million people entering the country illegally since Biden took office. Americans are most likely to say that immigration is the “most important problem” in the nation, a surge in concern over the issue ahead of the elections.
