Supreme Court rejects Apache appeal to block copper mine on Arizona land

The Supreme Court declined Monday to hear an appeal from Apache groups seeking to halt a copper mining project on federal land in Arizona that they consider sacred.

 

The decision effectively upholds lower court rulings permitting the transfer of Oak Flat, located within Tonto National Forest, to Resolution Copper. The company intends to develop what experts believe is the world’s second-largest copper deposit.
