Immigrant advocates have taken legal action against the Trump administration’s efforts to end the Flores settlement agreement.

 

The policy, which dates back to the 1990s, requires federal authorities to maintain sanitary conditions for immigrant children in custody. The administration’s move would permit indefinite detention of immigrant families, a provision included in President Donald Trump’s tax and spending proposal currently before Congress.

 

 

Testimonies from families held in Texas detention centers have revealed troubling conditions, such as insufficient water access and inadequate medical care. These issues have been documented through oversight mechanisms established by the Flores settlement.
