Opinion: The gospel collides with LGBT ideology in small-town Arizona

Speakers expressed the gravity of sin, the need for repentance, and the reality of hell, while emphasizing that their message was motivated by love, not by hatred, and that forgiveness in Christ is truly a standing offer.

We must remember that while political strategies and solutions are helpful to an extent, the fundamental battle is a battle for human souls. Our greatest weapons really are prayer to the living God and proclamation of the living Word. File Image.

Earlier this month, in the small town of Florence, Arizona, a small group of Christians, mostly consisting of congregants from Legacy Baptist Church, brought signs and speeches to protest a drag show at the GreenTree Inn and Suites.

The show is part of the “2025 Arizona Pride Tour,” which disturbingly says that “all shows are family-friendly unless noted.”

The protest lasted about two hours and featured readings of Scripture and pointed gospel preaching over a loudspeaker within earshot of the hotel parking lot.

The most unexpected part of the demonstration was when a man unrelated to the protest arrived, expressing his solidarity with the picketers, and then proceeded to repeatedly run into the street, shouting and gesticulating at passing cars. He was confronted by multiple protestors and eventually left the scene.

The demonstration was proof that Christians can make a forceful stand against the culturally popular sins of our day without stooping to the stereotypical “God hates fags” transgressiveness that has sadly become the societal poster-child of Christian protest.

Speakers expressed the gravity of sin, the need for repentance, and the reality of hell, while emphasizing that their message was motivated by love, not by hatred, and that forgiveness in Christ is truly a standing offer.

Jesus commanded his followers to “go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

We must remember that while political strategies and solutions are helpful to an extent, the fundamental battle is a battle for human souls. Our greatest weapons really are prayer to the living God and proclamation of the living Word.
